Hello. I'm Dr. Ed De Anda. I am a licensed Psychologist. I am bilingual (English y Espanol) and bicultural as I was born in the US, raised in Mexico, and emigrated to the US in my early 20s. I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University, in San Diego, CA.
I have worked extensive with Latinos/as and tailor therapy in a culturally appropriate fashion.
My training has taken place in diverse settings, including homes, hospitals, counseling centers, schools, and forensic settings (prisons).
I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families of low income who have struggled with diverse issues, such as substance use, anxiety, depression, aggression, trauma, dementia, and psychosis (auditory and visual hallucinations).
I think of diversity as the different social contexts, norms, and traditions in which people have been raised in which have shaped their perception of reality. I have also learned that psychopathology, in accordance with Van der Kolk (2014) and Siegel (1999), can stem from people's inability to regulate difficult emotions, lack of social connectivity, mental rigidity, and/or the inability to cope and process life circumstances.
I draw from different theoretical approaches (e.g., Cognitive-Behavior, Psychodynamic, Systems, Existential, Humanistic) depending on the persons’ problems and/or needs. I do rely on a Psychodynamic approach as my basis for conceptualizing and understanding people’s past as well as current lives.
